How did you choose your topic?
The topic of the ongoing struggle for peace in Darfur is something that has been close to my heart since finding out about the genocide in an International Food Crisis class in 2004. Since that day, I have done my best to constructively educate as many people as I can about the continuing humantiarian crisis in an effort to help find a solution and provide care to the men, women, and children of Darfur in need. To that end, I have made several songs about Darfur, put together the national Save Darfur Tour, and donated 50% of my musical proceeds over the last three years to non-profits helping to provide aid in Sudan. When I heard about this contest, I was compelled to do my best to impact more people; it was a no-brainer.

Before this contest, did you consider yourself fairly knowledgeable about global issues? Has this contest opened your eyes in any way?
I considered myself fairly knowledgeable, but I always have a lot to learn. This contest inspired me to research other global issues, such as child trafficking, child soldiers in Uganda, DR Congo, etc. Because of that, I think my artistic scope will be broadened to other global needs.

Did you have any weird, funny, horrible, or in some ways memorable moments during the making of this film for the contest?
It took me about an hour to rig up a makeshift tripod for my camcorder that was at the right height. When I finally was ready to hit record, my roommates came in the front door shouting and hollering after a night of partying. It took me several hours and relocating before I was able to film it again. Next time, I'll just break down and buy a tripod.

Anything else you'd like the viewers to know?
If I am fortunate enough to win this contest, I will continue to donate 50% of my musical and artistic proceeds to charity. So, half of my winnings would go to Mercy Corps' Darfur Relief Effort. But don't let that sway you - you should vote for the piece you enjoy the most.
